How often do you need to wash your towels

Just because you think your body is clean and has nothing left on it after a shower or a bath, doesn't mean it's true - Fact : Your body has microorganisms on it even after you have a shower.

Microorganisms is - a microscopic organism, especially a bacterium, virus, or fungus.

Everyone has bacteria, viruses and fungi living on the surface of their skin, i know sounds scary right, but it's totally normal. The microorganisms actually make up your microbiome which helps to protect you against pathogens which is a good thing. Too much of these and we're looking at infections of the skin.

Each time you dry off with a towel, you transfer the microbes, moisture from the water and dead skin cells onto the towel. Your skin cells and moisture are basically a food source for microbes and allow them to multiply.

Where as your skin produces acids that prevent microbes from growing more than they should, BUT your towels aren't as lucky as you.

So if your towels are left to stay damp and contain skin cells the microbes will colonize, if you share your towel with someone then it's double the trouble.

The effects of having too much virus, fungi and bacteria can result in seeing more acne, it can infect your hair follicle on different parts of your body which makes sense because you use your towel on all parts of your body.

As said by Amy Kassouf an MD and certified dermatologist and Scott Meschke a Ph.D in environmental occupational health microbiologist and professor.

So what do i recommend you do -

  • Air out your towels
  • Don't share
  • Wash them every coupe of days
